Blog 2. Italy’s Land

Lacerti Alessandro

I want to show you the use of the Land in my country, Italy.
First of all, I have to tell you that Italy is the third agricultural economy in Europe.
As we can see in the article linked below, on 291 square kilometers of surface (without rivers,lakes..), the 43% (it means 125 square kilometers) is agricultural land.

But, what does agricultural land mean?
Well, it simply means that the land is always used for crops or pastures. Of course, land that is abandoned is excluded from the 43%!

As I said in the “Blog 1, the USA’s use of land”, urbanization is taking over agriculture!
Why?
Because more or less 50 years ago, the percentage of agricultural land was 71%! Now the 30% of that agricultural land is used for industries and other commercial activities.

Even if it seems that the agricultural land is reducing, in Italy we have fantastic lanscapes with hills and I love spending time there! if you go to Italy, try to visit also Euganean hills other than only big cities as Venice, Milan, Rome...it's AWESOME

  2. I like the imagery that you used to show the demographics of Italy. I also did not know that Italy was known for high agricultural uses! Really like you’re blog post, keep up the good work!
