(Post 5) Why is it important for lands to have bodies of Water?

Image
By: Casey Williams    There are so many ways lakes and ponds are a must. Lakes are mostly used for recreation, swimming, nature viewing, boating, and fishing are popular activities that take place. To me they are important, they provide a water supply to agricultural, domestic, and industrial uses.    Lakes and ponds provide a excellent habitat, I feel like for everything. They play a essential part in hydration for animals. You have to think about living organisms as well living inside lakes and ponds. It provides them habitats, food and a good environment. It will protect even endangered species as well. It will always provide a healthy population. Supporting of what I have said, in the article it said, "lakes and ponds support and regulate the services of soil formation, biodiversity, groundwater recharge and flood protection."    Having lakes and ponds, it ensures biologist or everyone that those species are safe. They also ensure having a great ha...

Post 5. Overpopulation on land

Image
Alessandro Lacerti  Overpopulation  is one of the hazards and serious problem, which creates a great obstacle in the way of national development. It is estimated that growth in human population affect the global  land use  pattern available for agriculture, forest  land cover , nearby area of different type of water bodies. It doesn’t depend only on the size or density of the population, but on the ratio of population to available sustainable resources In past few years, cities grow due to the rapid increase in world population and the migration of people from villages to cities. Overpopulated cities have used  unplanned and uncontrolled settlements at the densely populated areas.  How can we solve overpopulation? 1- promote family planning:   Simply educating men and women about contraception can have a big impact. 2- make education entertaining: Tell stories about the issues of reproduction  3- Government incentives:   gov...

5 - The effect of pollution on Europe

Image
Air pollution is the biggest environmental health risk in Europe The effect of air pollution... Air pollution is a major cause of premature death and disease, and is the single largest environmental health risk in Europe. Heart disease and stroke are the most common reasons for premature death attributable to air pollution, followed by lung diseases and lung cancer. Pollutants Air pollution is a complex mix of several pollutants, so the effects attributed to one pollutant may be partly caused by some others. The most harmful pollutant is nitrogen oxide. What are they doing ...   Assessments of the health risk from air pollution estimate and communicate the impact of exposure to air pollution on the population’s health A health risk assessment involves three steps: Assess the exposure of the population to the pollutants in question Estimate the health risk associated with that exposure Estimate the uncertainty of the calculation.

Post 5: Urban Sprawl

Image
Nia Mallette          The topic I want to take the time and discuss, is Urban Sprawl. For those of you who have no clue what Urban Sprawl is, in short, it is when you build houses in places that shouldn't be built, because you have a lot of people in that population and you're running out of land to put them. So you build a house in the middle of the forest, or you cut down a lot of tress from that forrest and make a town there. This is a brief description of what Urban Sprawl is.                   The problem with doing this is that, "Urban Sprawl has been correlated too  with increased  energy  use, pollution and traffic congestion and a decline in community distinctiveness and cohesiveness".  This  is because when you  liven  places like this everything is far and  unconventional which makes you have to use your car more, which causes tr...

Post 4: Cigarettes Affect Land Too

Image
As we all know cigarettes have a negative affect on you body, however a fact that is really not known is that cigarettes also negatively affect the land. They damage the environment badly. When you smoke a cigarette and throw the buds on the ground, you This is another cause of toxic waste. Cigarettes contain chemicals that harm us and once the buds are on the ground and they get washed up into the sea, they harm animals and wildlife as well. Also, when you throw a lit cigarette on the ground, you are giving the chance of that cigarette to cause a fire. This damages land, and homes for animals. All in all, cigarettes are detrimental all the way around, from negativity affecting your body to negatively affected animals, as well as negatively affecting the land. https://tobaccofreeca.com/environment/how-smoking-affects-us-all-through-environmental-impact/

Transportation Air Pollution

Image
Our daily activities that require us to drive is one of the main contributors to air pollution. Our cars ,trucks, and busses that we drive daily contribute half of nitrogen oxides in our air. The nitrogen oxides that are released are a major source of global warming emissions in the US. How is air pollution created?  Air pollution is created from the additional emissions that are associated with distribution of fuels, manufacturing and disposal of vehicles. A few types of pollutants our vehicles release are.... * Particulate matter - which could be soot seen in the vehicle exhaust which is a serious threat to human health * Volatile Organic Compounds - An maim ingredient is smog which is good in the upper atmosphere but could harm our respiratory system if close to ground level * Carbon monoxide - orderless ,colorless , and poisonous gas formed by fossil fuels such as gasoline which is produced mainly by motor vehicles * Greenhouse gases -carbon diox...

(Post 4) The Affects of Land Pollution

Image
By: Casey Williams So what is land pollution? Why is Land Pollution so bad?    Land pollution is a serious problem that impacts humans, animals, and the earth. It is the destruction and contamination of the land through the direct and indirect actions of humans. The affects of pollution isn't done overnight. It comes from a long-term destruction from human activities. We may not even be able to see the affects through clarity, but know it is. By not having green cover, the soil is at greater risk of soil erosion and washing out fields.    There are alot of things that can cause land pollution and that is deforestation and soil erosion, agricultural activities, mining activities, overcrowded landfills, industrialization, construction activities, nuclear waste and sewage treatment. All of these are terrible for the environment.    Some solutions for land pollution is by making people aware of recycling, reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers in...

Blog 4. Effect of global warming in Land.

Image
Alessandro Lacerti  Effect of global warming on the Land   Global warming is the long-term rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system. It is a major aspect of climate change and has been demonstrated by direct temperature measurements and by measurements of various effects of the warming. Forests have been identified as being very vulnerable to climate change in the long run but may be more vulnerable in the short term if other disturbances such as drought, insects, and fires cross key thresholds (IPCC, 2007).  Key ecosystems that forests provide include: habitats for an increasing fraction of biodiversity carbon sequestration climate regulation soil and water protection or purification (>75% of globally usable freshwater supplies come from forested catchments) recreational, cultural and spiritual benefits   Are the effects of global warming really that bad? Severe weather: storm, heat waves, floods and droughts. A...
