Contaminated soil - post 2

 Da’Viona Bonner

Have you ever seen a local store or restaurant  that’s has a sign saying “ sorry we aren’t serving Roman lettuce due to a recall linked to ...”

The reason we have those recalls on our food is due to contaminated soil. The biggest areas of soil contamination are located in urban areas and industrial sites. If you are located in those areas you should do a soil test for safety precautions. The most common contamination in the urban area are  pesticides, radon, lead and many more which is caused by our Activities.

Some people think that the only way to come in contact with contaminated soil is thru our food but that is only one way. Other ways we can come in contact with contaminated soil is by breathing the dust, through skin contact, and ingesting soil.
For example, if you have a pet and take them outside for a walk and they come in contact with contaminated soil and you go back inside and decide to play /pet with them then your breathing in and touching whatever they came in contact with.

There are also some cites that you should be high alert about. Those cites include landfills, junkyards and waste disposal cites like industrial cites.

  3. Where could one get a soil test? I think it would be interesting to see the contamination of the soil all around us.
